If you’re a fan of this premium tequila brand looking for something with a bit more vanilla and oak, Patron Reposado is where to go. Reposados are a step up from the silver variety and add a slightly creamier note to cocktails, are good enough for sipping, and, if you feel like, can still be taken as a shot.
Patron Reposado is made from 100% Weber Blue Agave and distilled in small batches at Hacienda Patrón distillery in Jalisco, Mexico. From there it is aged for three to five months in a combination of new and used American, French, and Hungarian oak barrels, so that it maintains the agave flavors unique to the brand.
Light amber in color, the nose of the tequila is full of oak and fresh agave. The palate features more agave and oak with notes of fruit, citrus, and honey. The finish is floral and light with some vanilla sweetness.
If you’re looking to mix up a cocktail with the Reposado, Patron recommends a Watermelon Basil Margarita:
Watermelon Basil Margarita:
- 1.5 oz Patrón Reposado
- 1 oz Fresh watermelon juice or puree
- 1 oz Fresh lime juice
- 1 oz Agave nectar
- 3 Basil leaves or basil simple syrup
- Garnish: Watermelon wedge or dehydrated lime wheel
Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake with ice to chill. Strain onto fresh ice in a double old fashioned glass. Garnish with a basil leaf and wedge of watermelon or dehydrated lime wheel.
The original Patron Tequila was produced by Casa 7 Leguas. In 1989 St. Maarten Spirits and in 2000, Ed Brown took over as CEO, turning it into the celebrity loved brand we are familiar with today. The advertising strategy was changed to selling the brand as a “premium” tequila and it took off. In 2018, Patrón was sold to Bacardi for $5.1 billion.
Patron also makes Silver, Anejo, and Extra Anejo varieties, as well as Gran Patrón Burdeos, Gran Patrón Platinum, Gran Patrón Piedra, Roca Patrón Silver, Roca Patrón Reposado, Roca Patrón Añejo, and Patrón XO Cafe.
