Manchester Gin Signature is the original spirit from what has become one of England’s most-beloved distilleries. It is one the the most awarded Gins in the country, and has grown into one of the UKs top brands. Nonetheless, there remains something distinctly Manchester about the drink.
Part of the reason for that Gin of place taste is the distillery’s use of local dandelion and burdock root. In total, the Signature Gin has 12 botanicals, including orange, lemon, liquorice, and ground almond. There’s also the symbol of a bee on the bottle, which comes from Manchester’s coat of arms and is a tribute to the city’s work ethic and inclusive, hive mentality.
On the nose, aromas of round citrus are lifted by a classic juniper undertone. The palate has an initial citrus and juniper burst that develops into earthier depths with notes of Dandelion and Burdock root. The finish is smooth and creamy with a delicate liquorice sweetness. Overall, it’s a crisp, smooth, well-balanced gin that is perfect for a G&T with a slice of grapefruit.
In 2017, Signature was the most-awarded Gin in the United Kingdom, winning gold at the International Wine and Spirits Competition, the Spirit Masters, and the Great Taste Awards.
Created by Jen Wiggins and Seb Heeley, Manchester Gin began life from a dining room table. In 2019, the company opened up their brand new, state-of-the-art distillery, bar and restaurant. It occupies six railway arches under the historic center of the city, Manchester Central–not too shabby for a brand that sprung to life over a discussion about the finer points of a good G&T.
Along with their Signature Gin, Manchester makes a variety of other flavors: Blackberry Infused, Haçienda, Overboard, Wild Spirit, and Raspberry Infused as well as a Vodka.
