Woodford Reserve has released its 2021 expression of Double Double Oaked Bourbon. The Whiskey is part of an annual series that celebrates Master Distiller Chris Morris’ commitment to innovation and craftsmanship. The Whiskey will be exclusively available at Woodford Reserve Distillery, beginning 10:00 AM EDT, Wednesday, January 27, 2021.
Woodford Reserve Double Double Oaked 2021 is the result of finishing fully mature Woodford Reserve Double Oaked for an additional year in a second, heavily toasted, lightly charred, new oak barrel. The extra year in the barrel creates a Bourbon that is distinctly spicier than its original counterpart, known for its sweeter taste and finish, Morris said. Double Double Oaked has developed a passionate following among bourbon lovers, will also be available in limited quantities at select Kentucky retailers.
A roasted coffee bean in color, the Whiskey offers a robust medley of rich maple syrup, dark butterscotch, brittle caramel, bittersweet chocolate, burnt marshmallow and sweet hickory smoke notes on the nose. Rich dried cherry and cranberry fruit swim in a blackberry jam brightened with hints of ripe apple, while chai tea and warming clove notes develop to spice up the palate. The finish is warm and drying with a lingering clove character.
Double Double Oaked 2021 is bottled at 90.4 proof and priced price of $49.99 for a 375ml bottle. Customers may purchase up to four 375ml bottles. The gift shop does not ship, hold, or reserve bottles, and cannot accept credit cards over the phone or through email. All sales must be in person.
To celebrate the upcoming Valentine’s Day, Woodford Reserve has partnered with award-winning chocolatier Phillip Ashley Chocolates to showcase the harmonious pairing between Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Bourbon and chocolate.
The twice-barreled Bourbon is known for its rich flavor profile full of sweet aromatic flavor notes, making it the perfect Whiskey for Valentine’s Day. To highlight those flavors, Woodford Reserve Assistant Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall designed a tasting guide that includes three different chocolate pairings that will accentuate specific characteristics of the Whiskey: white chocolate, milk chocolate with almond, and sea salt dark chocolate.
