Vancouver’s Fairmont Pacific Rim Debuts Douglas Coupland-Inspired Cocktails

Tokyo Twilight

Downtown Vancouver’s The Lobby Lounge & RawBar, located within the Fairmont Pacific Rim, has launched a limited-run cocktail menu inspired by the works of acclaimed Canadian artist, novelist and designer, Douglas Coupland. The menu will be available for just one month.

Clint

Each cocktail from the hotel bar’s Douglas Coupland menu reflects a piece from the artist’s ‘Red Light, Green Light’ exhibit, currently on display in the property’s Pacific Gallery. Created by award-winning Beverage Director Grant Sceney, the cocktails include: Dirty Harry, a vodka based cocktail named after ‘Dirty Harry, 2021,’ a piece of art covered in glass and blown mercury glass; the Clint–named after ‘Clint, 2021’–pulls inspiration from the Wild West, using blueberries instead of bullets; and Tokyo Twilight, a gin-based drink inspired by the 1957 Japanese movie of the same name, which stars actor Ineko Arima, who can be found in Douglas Coupland’s prints

Douglas Coupland is a Canadian novelist and artist. Since 1991 he has written thirteen novels and is a frequent contributor to The New York Times, e-flux, DIS and Vice. In the summer of 2014, The Vancouver Art Gallery honored Coupland, one of Canada’s most celebrated artists, with a major museum exhibition titled ‘Everything is Anything is Anywhere is Everywhere.’ One of Douglas Coupland’s more recognizable public art pieces is located across the street from Fairmont Pacific Rim at Jack Poole Plaza. Coupland is an Officer of the Order of Canada and a member of the Order of British Columbia and has been long-listed twice for the Scotiabank Giller Prize in 2006 and 2010, was a finalist for the Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize in 2009, and was nominated for the Hubert Evans Non-Fiction Prize in 2011 for Extraordinary Canadians: Marshall McLuhan.

In April, New York City’s beloved World’s 50 Best cocktail bar Katana Kitten created a specialty menu at both of Fairmont Pacific Rim’s restaurants: Botanist and The Lobby Lounge & RawBar.
