Porto’s Wine District Adds Experiential Museum Dedicated To Rosé, The Pink Palace

Dedicated to rosé wine, The Pink Palace brings endless summer to Porto’s newest cultural district.

Last summer, Porto opened a new major cultural district, World of Wine (WOW). Five years in the making and costing €105 million, the vinophile-oriented destination launched with five immersive museums—The Wine Experience, Porto Region Across the Ages, Planet Cork, The Chocolate Story and The Bridge Collection – 9,000 Years of Drinking—and a collection of restaurants, cafes and bars.

Sitting just below the city’s iconic Port warehouses on the southern side of the Douro river, which splits the city, WOW encompasses a central open-air square that overlooks the river and Historic Centre of Oporto. It launched with five immersive museums—The Wine Experience, Porto Region Across the Ages, Planet Cork, The Chocolate Story and The Bridge Collection – 9,000 Years of Drinking, to go along with a variety of restaurants, cafes and bars. Altogether, the space spans to around 600,000sqft of restored wine cellars in the historic center of Vila Nova de Gaia.

Earlier this year, the district added a sixth museum, Porto Fashion & Fabric Museum, and the site’s Wine School. Now the cultural destination has added a seventh museum, The Pink Palace, which is dedicate to rosé wine.

The interactive Pink Palace gives insight into the history and science behind the production of rosé, as well as the culture and lifestyle it represents, think convertibles, endless summer, and other rosy delights. The experience comes with tastings of Quinta do Vale do Bragão rosé, AIX Gran Vin de Provence rosé, Mateus rosé, Vértice rosé Bruto, and Croft Pink rosé port.

The Fladgate Partnership (owners of Taylor, Croft, Fonseca and Krohn port brands, along with The Yeatman and Infante Sagres luxury hotels in Porto and The Vintage House Hotel in the Douro Valley) spearheaded the wine-oriented cultural district.
