Monterrey Bar Brings Gatsby Style Elegance To The Standard In Miami

The Standard Miami has unveiled Monterrey Bar, a glamorous addition to the city’s nightlife scene just steps from South Beach.

Monterrey Bar pays homage to the hotel’s roots as Monterrey Motel which opened at 40 Island Avenue in 1953 and was originally designed by Architect Norman Giller. The intimate bar celebrates unique twists on classic cocktails and elevated bites. Indulgent light plates by Executive Chef Andrew Gilbert are designed to pair with the curated beverage menu, reflecting the cool, dark speakeasy style of Monterrey Bar.

The T-shaped bar with Amazonite stone is a dramatic focal point and provides an intimate place to gather. Afromosia wall paneling and plush carpet emulating the ocean are tied together beneath a Murano glass chandelier. The shelves are playfully lined with a pop art collection of 1980s ‘Frozen Moments’ by artist Geoffrey Rose.

The cocktail menu is made up of two sections, Lighter & Brighter and Slow Sippers. The lighter side features a number of bright and bubbly concoctions, including the High Tropic 20 (Brugal 1888, amontillado sherry, lemon oleo, sparkling coconut, salted piña espuma) and the Island Avenue 18 (Grey Goose vodka, Dolin Blanc, blueberry-ginger cordial, mint, coconut water). On the Slow Sipper side, visitors will find the Gold Standard 24 (Aberfeldy 12 year scotch, Chinola Passion Fruit, cacao, oloroso sherry, cardamaro, english tea, 24k cube), the Ristretto Martini 18 (E11even vodka, Germain-Robin VSOP, fig cordial, espresso, rose and nutmeg aromatics), and more. A variety of wines by the glass and bottle as well as beers are also available.

On the food side, rich dishes such as chicken liver pate, roasted bone marrow, duck confit, and grilled swordfish belly are found alongside lighter bites, including crispy shrimp, tater tots, and a house pickle plate. There’s also a small selection of desserts available as well as a glass or bottle of Sauternes.

Monterrey Bar is open daily from 5pm to midnight. To make a reservation, head over to the official website.
