The Last Drop Distillers has put together an independent panel of experts to promote and share knowledge, ideas and expertise across the industry, and dubbed it The Assembly.
“We are delighted and immensely proud to announce the formation of The Assembly,” wrote The Last Drop Distillers on its Facebook. “Brought together to share the knowledge, ideas, expertise and creativity which sit at the heart of the spirits industry, this independent and carefully selected panel of experts drawn from across the spirits industry is truly unique.
A warm welcome, then, to the Founder Members. All are luminaries from across the worlds of Scotch, American, Irish and Indian whiskies, as well as Cognac and Rum, each one is a renowned world-leader in their own category.”
The founding members are Colin Scott, Master Blender for The Last Drop Distillers of London; Drew Mayville, Master Blender & Director of Quality, Sazerac, USA; Richard Seale, Master Distiller & Blender, Foursquare Rum, Barbados; Louise McGuane, Owner & Bonder, JJ Corry Irish Whiskey, Ireland; Michael d’Souza, Master Distiller & Blender, Paul John Whisky, India; and Denis Lahouratate, Cellar Master, Domaine de Sazerac Cognac, France.
“This is a hugely exciting milestone for The Last Drop,” said Rebecca Jago, managing director. “The members of The Assembly will play an instrumental role as we develop, given our common focus on extraordinary quality and our shared philosophy of celebrating the remarkable. We are delighted and immensely proud that such respected figures from across the industry have agreed to join us.”
The creation of The Assembly comes ahead of plans for The Last Drop Distillers to produce a series of signature blends by Assembly members. The new collection will begin with the company’s next limited edition release, an aged blended Scotch Whisky created for The Last Drop Distillers by Scott.
In October, The Last Drop Distillers announced their first Autumn Collection of rare aged spirits, which features a 1980 Buffalo Trace Bourbon, a 1976 “Overproof” Very Old Jamaica Rum, and a 1959 Vintage Grande Champagne Cognac.
In June, The Last Drop Distillers released a 1970 Glenrothes Whisky in the United States. The 50-year-old single malt Scotch comes in three different bottlings, each unique to the cask in which they matured.
