Kendall Jenner has officially launched her own Tequila, 818 Tequila. The new offering from the Kardashian clan member joins an ever growing field of celebrity backed spirits brands.
Kendall Jenner introduced 818 Tequila on her Instagram today, after weeks of speculations from fans across the globe. “For almost 4 years i’ve been on a journey to create the best tasting tequila,” wrote the model. “After dozens of blind taste tests, trips to our distillery, entering into world tasting competitions anonymously and WINNING (🥳) ..3.5 years later i think we’ve done it! this is all we’ve been drinking for the last year and i can’t wait for everyone else to get their hands on this to enjoy it as much as we do! @drink818 coming soon.”
Last year, 818 Reposado took home the award for Best Reposado Tequila at the 2020 World Tequila Awards. It was described as, “An earthy nose which hints at pecan pie, sweet potato and caramel. A sweet and smoky body with some oaky influence, vanilla, and more sweetness on the finish as cinnamon ice cream comes through.”
While details on the forthcoming Tequila remain scarce, we do know that Blanco, Reposado, and Anejo expressions will be made available. The Anejo version took home a Bronze medal at the 2020 World Tequila Awards.
More and more celebrities have been entering into the spirits space in recent months. In November, Bruno Mars unveiled his own spirits brand, SelvaRey Rum. For years, the Hawaii-born musician has been guiding the Panamanian Rum company, redesigning every aspect of the brand. Now, after years of work, the brand has revealed new packaging, branding, and a global campaign.
In October, Cameron Diaz unveiled her third Avaline wine. Earlier in October, rock band Kiss debuted their own Rum. And in September, Snoop Dogg launched a Gin. Back in August, Diageo spent $610 million to buy Aviation American Gin, co-owned by Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds, and a variety of other spirits brands.
George Clooney was one of the earliest entrants into the celebrities spirits world, and sold his Tequila brand, Casamigos, to Diageo back in 2017.
What a good reason to try another tequila — to experience a star offering that has already won awards! And the season is right for margaritas as we begin to fire up the barbecue for weekends in the backyard! I am going to have to taste it to see if I can discern pecan pie, sweet potato and caramel—flavors we all love. Looking forward to trying this one out.
