Forty Creek Distillery Unveils The World’s First Botanical Canadian Whisky: The Forager

The world’s first botanical Canadian whisky has hit the shelves. Created by Forty Creek Whisky, The Forager Botanical Whisky is the first of its kind and is made to reflect the natural elements of Canada’s vast wilderness.

“With the launch of The Forager, Forty Creek is excited to once again demonstrate its commitment to innovation in the Canadian whisky category,” said Chris Staresinic, Vice President of Marketing, Campari Group Canada. “Innovation and sustainability are key pillars of our company, and we are excited to share this spirit with Canadians,” concluded Mr. Staresinic.

The Forager is crafted from a light, fresh Canadian whisky that is aged initially for three years. Prior to additional aging, select botanicals are steeped in the liquid, creating a botanical-infused spirit that displays distinct fresh notes. It’s perfect for those who want some more full-flavored gin, without the weight of whisky.

All of the botanicals used in the making of The Forager are hand-picked by professional foragers. They practice sustainable harvesting methods that are respectful of both the flora and their surrounding ecosystems. The botanicals are sourced from across Eastern Canada and include juniper berries, labrador tea, spruce tips, mugwort, and sweet fern.

Light amber in color, The Forager features a complex medley of flavours, including herbal tea and a peppery finish. Fresh cut pine features on the nose, along with notes of candied citrus.

“This definitely isn’t your typical Canadian whisky,” said Master Blender Bill Ashburn. “In fact, it’s unlike anything I’ve ever created. As a whisky-maker, that’s always exciting, knowing you have the chance to explore new territory and push the boundaries of what a Canadian whisky can be.”

Priced at  $34.95 CAD, The Forager Botanical Whisky is now available in a variety of Canadian provinces, and will appear in stores across Canada later this year. There is no word yet on whether the company plans to release the spirit in the United States or Europe.
