Johnnie Walker struck gold at the International Spirits Challenge 2020 as every Whisky entered into the competition by the Diageo-owned brand won a Gold medal. The win comes as Johnnie Walker celebrates 200 years since founder John Walker first opened the doors to a small grocery store in Scotland, starting a journey which took Johnnie Walker Whiskies around the world.
This is the first time in the International Spirits Challenge’s 25-year existence that all Johnnie Walker variants entered have received gold medals. The variants entered in this year’s competition by Johnnie Walker include Johnnie Walker Red Label, Johnnie Walker Black Label, Johnnie Walker Double Black, Johnnie Walker Green Label, Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve, and Johnnie Walker Blue Label.
These latest wins come on the back of Johnnie Walker Blue Label being named as the world’s best blended Scotch whisky by the Scotch Whisky Masters competition, which is awarded by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society. “From the nose to the palate to the finish, everything evolved and kept delivering more and more. It just kept opening up. This was an example of how no-age-statement can really deliver on quality,” noted a judge.
Johnnie Walker, Global Brand Director, Julie Bramham says: “What a great way to celebrate 200 years since our journey began with a clean sweep of gold medals at this prestigious event. It’s a fantastic achievement and one that we can’t wait to celebrate with those who have walked with us for so many years. It is testament to our commitment to quality and to our small team of expert whisky makers, led by Johnnie Walker Master Blender Jim Beveridge, who skillfully oversee and maintain the consistency and quality of all of our whiskies.”
To celebrate this incredible 200-year journey, Johnnie Walker recently announced the release of four exclusive new 200th anniversary limited editions, including Johnnie Walker Blue Label 200th Anniversary Limited Edition Design, Johnnie Walker Blue Label Legendary Eight, John Walker & Sons Bicentenary Blend, and John Walker & Sons Celebratory Blend.
Johnnie Walker performed admirably at the International Spirits Challenge 2020, but these 26 Scotch Whiskies were awarded Double Gold Medals.
