Duckhorn Acquires 107ha Of Cabernet Sauvignon Vineyards In Paso Robles

Duckhorn has expanded its holdings in California’s Central Coast with the acquisition of Bottom Line Ranch in Paso Robles. The 107ha of property is known for its first-rate Cabernet Sauvignon.

Located in the San Miguel District of Paso Robles, Bottom Line Ranch is planted exclusively to Cabernet Sauvignon and features seven top clones on three drought-tolerant rootstocks. The wine produced at the property is expected to be used to support existing Duckhorn wineries Decoy and Postmark, and the ranch is expected to be renamed.

Duckhorn already has a significant footprint in California Central Coast, including Calera winery’s 33ha of vineyards on Mt. Harlan.

“This acquisition follows our long-term strategy of supporting our wineries with robust Estate holdings,” said Alex Ryan, CEO and president of The Duckhorn Portfolio. “Adding Bottom Line Ranch’s 107 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon to our estate programme will provide us with exceptional grapes for both Decoy and Postmark, while cementing our commitment to the Central Coast. There is a reason why Paso Robles has the most Cabernet Sauvignon acreage of any appellation in California outside of Napa Valley.

“In addition to producing phenomenal Cabernet Sauvignon, the Paso Robles winemaking community has done a fantastic job of building global awareness for the region and its wines. Putting down roots in this acclaimed region is an important next step in our long-term vision.”

The purchase price for the ranch was not disclosed.

The new acquisition brings The Duckhorn Portfolio’s holdings to ten wineries, eight winemaking facilities, seven tasting rooms, and more than 445 hectares of vineyards.

In February, Duckhorn acquired 20 hectares (50 acres) of Napa Valley vineyards. The new holdings are made up of 16ha of the Stanly Ranch vineyard in Los Carneros and the 4ha Red Wing vineyard in St Helena.
