Casa Don Ramón has launched a cristalino tequila range, named the Tequila Don Ramón Platinium Collection. The collection removes the liquid’s color and piquancy from the spirits, resulting in a smooth taste and long finish meant for easy sipping. Casa Don Ramón is the first brand to offer a full Cristalino collection.
Cristalino, essentially a filtered aged tequila, is a newer category in the tequila market that has been gaining popularity in the U.S. It is also the fastest growing tequila category in Mexico, responsible for shifting its consumption to more than 50% female. Through the proprietary filtration, the woodier notes from the barrel and color of a tequila are removed, leaving an elixir with the complexity of an añejo and the crispness of a plata.
The Tequila Don Ramón Platinium Collection comes in three expressions each made from 100% Blue agave from the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico:
Platinium Plata is double-distilled in steel and offers fresh aromas of citrus agave. The palate features cooked agave and fruit.
Platinium Cristalino Reposado is double-distilled and rested in American and French oak, resulting in a smooth, delicate taste and robust profile. The nose offers aromas of wood, spices, chocolate, cinnamon. and soft vanilla. The palate delivers citrus, nuts, and vanilla.
Platinium Cristalino Añejo is double-distilled and aged in American oak barrels for 12 months. Further time spent with a proprietary finishing method results in a smooth, richer taste and robust profile. On the nose, expect aromas of wood and spices. The plate features nuts, vanilla, cacao, and cinnamon.
“As the tequila industry gathers popularity among more female and younger consumers, preferences for the spirit have been shifting,” said Jesus Reza, Maestro Tequilero at Casa Don Ramón. “This audience is drawn to clear spirits that are aesthetically pleasing, which are still bold in flavor like the traditional amber expressions. This cristalino collection from Casa Don Ramón brings forth subtle vanilla and fruit notes, while subduing overly woody notes, which gives the balanced, crisp flavor that these newer-to-tequila audiences really enjoy and find more approachable.”
The recommends enjoying the tequilas neat, poured over a single large ice cube to be slowly sipped, or mixed and shaken into your favorite cocktail. If you’re looking to mix up a drink, the brand suggests:
