Buzzard’s Roost Debuts Two Bourbons, Char #1 and Toasted American Oak

Kentucky Buzzard’s Roost Whiskey has introduced two new bourbons to celebrate its three-year anniversary.

The two whiskeys, Char #1 Bourbon and Toasted American Oak Bourbon, use a mix of strategies for second barrel maturation such as 18-month-seasoned oak barrels. Char #1 features specific levels of toast. These techniques create unique flavors with each barrel.

Buzzard’s Roost has rapidly grown since its launch with the expansion to Massachusetts and Ohio in 2021; and New Mexico, Arkansas, Tennessee, Illinois, Louisiana, North Carolina, and Victoria, Canada in 2022. More states are expected to follow suit later in 2022.

Char #1 Bourbon features a mash bill of 59% corn, 39% rye, and 5% malted barley. The 4-year-old double-barreled bottle has notes of brown sugar, cinnamon, cardamom, sweet vanilla, and brown sugar balanced by blackberry and cherry. The suggested retail price is $55 with 250 cases available, with more bottling coming soon.

Toasted American Oak Bourbon is made from a mix of two mash bills: 74% corn, 21% rye, and 5% malted barley, with the other being 59% corn, 36% rye, and 5% malted barley. The 4 and 5-year-old double barrel bottle has aromas of caramel, coconut, and vanilla highlighted by sweet candy and floral notes, mixed in confectionery and baking spice. The bourbon features spice, butterscotch, and vanilla on the finish. The suggested retail price is $75 with 530 cases available.

“We love giving people something new to discover every few months,” said Buzzard’s Roost Master Blender Jason Brauner. “After the success of our limited-edition Toasted French Oak Bourbon earlier this year, we thought it would be fun to release our two newest expressions; a bourbon focused on the magic of our Char #1 barrels and another toasted barrel bourbon, this time in American oak.”

With the continued success of Buzzard’s Roost, the company is expected to further its marketplace expansion and is anticipated to open a micro-distillery and tasting room on Bourbon Row in downtown Louisville.
