A London Bar Now Serves Cocktails For Dogs

A London drinking spot called After Bark is now serving plant-based ‘puptails’ – cocktails for four-legged patrons.

Visitors to the Barkney Wick dog and human community centre in the London borough of Hackney are now being catered for with the availability of ‘puptails’ – specially made canine-friendly cocktails

Made with wholesome ingredients like apple or beet juices and raw carrots, the drinks have great names like Howlapaw Sling, Barkarita, or Bloodhound Mary – all to be enjoyed as the humans enjoy beverages like the new take on the classic Old Fashioned – the ‘Old Dachshund’ or a Neboni. There is also a selection of more commonly known natural wines and beers.

The intention behind the dog-friendly drinks being served at the cocktail bar inside the community centre is to reduce separation anxiety and help dog-owners return to their day jobs after months spent at home with their pets during lockdown.

Speaking with Reuters in June, Jamie Swan, who opened the bar said:

“The puptails basically consist of raw beet or raw carrot. We don’t have any preservatives in anything. We also have Fish Island Iced Tea, which is just for dogs, and that’s got things like dandelion and burdock in, which are good for the gut and for the overall health, as well as just a lot of fun.”

Barkney Wick’s daycare centre also offers full or half day care for furry ones, dog walking services, puppy training and other behavioural classes, alongside zero-waste ‘Lick&Mix’ treats for hounds and humans to share.
