Westward Launches Single Malt Pinot Noir Cask Whiskey And Redesign

Westward Oregon Pinot Noir Cask Finish Whiskey

Westward Whiskey has added a new permanent expression to its core range, Westward American Single Malt Pinot Noir Cask. The Oregon distillery also unveiled redesigned packaging.

Created as a tribute to Oregon’s famous Willamette Valley wine country, Westward American Single Malt Pinot Noir Cask Whisky was made in partnership with various Willamette Valley producers, including Bergstrom Wines and Suzor Wines. To create the Whiskey, the distillery matured its original Westward single malt in two-char, kiln-dried new American oak barrels, before finishing it for up to two years in ex-Pinot Noir French oak wine casks.

The new release joins the brand’s original single malt and Westward American Single Malt Stout Cask expressions.

“At Westward, there are no shortcuts, and therein lies the beauty. We pursue perfection by raising a world class whiskey through our long, slow, process,” said Thomas Mooney, CEO and Co-Founder, Westward Whiskey, in a prepared statement. “Today, we celebrate the culmination of a project we have worked on for the last two years. Our new custom bottle and design expresses the uncompromising spirit of the American Northwest, and they represent Westward’s meticulous devotion to our process, culture, climate, and ingredients.

“We’re thrilled to introduce a new, elevated visual identity that further highlights the beauty of our award-winning whiskeys.”

Bottled at 45% ABV, the Westward American Single Malt Pinot Noir Cask Whiskey is priced at $89.99. The new expression joins the brand’s original single malt and Westward American Single Malt Stout Cask expressions, which are all now available across the United States and will be coming to the United Kingdom in early 2021.

The redesign, meanwhile, was created in collaboration with award-winning design agency Pearlfisher. The design pays tribute to th Pacific Northwest and features the words “True Northwest” across the bottle. The “cuts and edges reflected in the bottle mirror the raw beauty and dramatic mountain ranges found in the American Northwest. Likewise, the new, angular label is designed to reflect the mountain peaks of Westward’s origin and capture the craftsmanship that goes into perfecting its whiskeys every day,” explained the brand.
