The Dalmore Debut Rare & Aged Whisky Collection, A Scotch Trio Worth $30,000

Dalmore Rare & Aged

The Dalmore Rare & Aged collection has officially arrived. Made up of a trio of Scotch Whiskies aged  35, 40, and 45 years, the entire assembly costs a staggering, but somehow elegant $30,000. While information surrounding the trio remains a bit scarce, here’s what we do know:

Master Distiller Richard Paterson handcrafted each expression and they come in bespoke decanters from French crystal house Baccarat. The decanters are each emblazoned with a solid silver stag–from legendary Edinburgh jewelers Hamilton & Inches–which is the symbol of the house.

The Dalmore 35, the youngest of the trio, features aromas of coffee and mousse. The palate is filled with dark treacle cake and even darker coffee, and is valued at $6,600. The Dalmore 40, meanwhile, boasts flavors of honey and will cost around $8,800.

The true King of the Dalmore Rare & Aged collection is The Dalmore 45, however, which goes for about $14,600. First aged in American white oak ex-Bourbon casks, it was then placed in two separate Vintage Graham’s Port Colheita pipes. Then the two are brought back together in first-fill American white oak ex-Bourbon casks. The 45 offers notes of licorice, bitter chocolate, and honey.

The Dalmore is no newcomer to the extremely high-priced, luxury Whisky world. Back in February, the Whyte & Mackay-owned distillery released its first new product of the decade, The Dalmore 51 Year Old. Only 51 bottles of the ultra rare release were made and cost a cool $71,000 a piece.

At the end of last year, Dalmore released another stunning rare single malt. That 60 year old whisky was made by reuniting the liquid from twin ex-sherry barrels filled with whisky that was distilled on June 7, 1951. Those two casks happen to be the last laid down by the Mackenzie Clan who led the distillery for three generations.
