Ryan Reynolds has unveiled his latest ad campaign for juice and The Croods: A New Age, titled Not a Gin Ad. The new advertisement comes ahead of the digital release of the animated feature film, which stars Reynolds alongside Nicolas Cage, Catherine Keener and Emma Stone.
Like the most recent Aviation Gin ad, Homeschool Edition, the video starts with Reynolds sitting in a large wood-filled room. This time a fire crackles in the background and a bottle of Aviation American Gin sits on the table next to the actor. “This is absolutely not an ad for, or a partnership with my top-of-the-line best-selling gin; no way,” he says. He then goes on to explain how The Croods: A New Age is a “family film” and that Gin is for “mummies and daddies only”.
From there, Reynolds explains how this is actually an advertisement for Gin’s “family-friendly counterpart” – juice. It’s definitely Not a Gin ad. The clip closes with a promotion of the new film, before cutting back to Reynolds and his jug of juice, and ends with what we assume is the Deadpool star picking up a bottle of Aviation American Gin.
In August, Diageo announced it would be spending up to $610 million to buy Aviation American Gin, co-owned by Reynolds, and a variety of other spirits brands. The British spirits giants already own Tanqueray and Gordon’s.
The celebrity spirits train is nothing new for Diageo, who way back in 2007 teamed up with Sean “Diddy” Combs on Ciroc Vodka. In 2017, the company paid $1 billion to acquire Tequila brand Casamigos, which was co-founded by George Clooney.
Back in 2018, Reynolds grabbed a minority stake in the American Gin brand and the company has thrived ever since. In a statement, Diageo announced the actor would keep his stake in the Gin company.
Diageo is paying up to $610 million for Aviation Gin LLC and Davos Brands LLC, whose portfolio also includes Astral Tequila, Sombra Mezcal, and TYKU Sake.
