Resident Evil, known as Biohazard in Japan, is already one of the most famous video games of all time, and now it’s getting its very own Scotch whisky. The video game has already been spun into a successful film franchise, with a new film, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, set to premiere in November 2021.

Created by Speyside’s Glenfarclas Distillery, the new limited-edition Resident Evil whisky has been matured for 25 years and comes in at cask strength (51.6% ABV). One of the few remaining family-owned distilleries in Scotland, Glenfarclas is based at Ballindalloch in Banffshire and is known for their sherry cask whiskies.

The Biohazard 25th Anniversary bottle by Glenfarclas Distillery is housed in a special wooden box that is stamped with the logo and the 25th-anniversary crest.

The Resident Evil scotch whisky will be available at select stores in Japan on July 21. Unfortunately, it does not seem like it will be available in other regions.

In other Resident Evil news, the first season of Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, an animated series, is set to appear on Netflix in just a few days.

In May, Glenfarclas launched a limited edition whisky to mark 185 years since the producer began legally distilling in May 1836. Meaning ‘valley of the green grassland’, Glenfarclas uses spring water that emerges deep from granite beneath the slopes of the Speyside mountain, Ben Rinnes. The water is combined with malted barley and double distilled in copper pot stills. Then two thirds is filled in Spanish Sherry oak casks. The remaining liquid is poured into normal oak casks. The casks used to make the whisky span sixty years.

In November, Glenfarclas launched a 60 Year Old Single Cask Whisky. The new offering from the Speyside distillery is priced at £19,500 ($25,870 USD). The whisky was distilled on June 2, 1959 in a first-fill Oloroso Sherry hogshead.
