Redbird Is Pouring A Mezcal Cocktail To Help Fight Hunger

For the month of October, visitors to Redbird in Downtown Los Angeles will be able to put their taste buds to good work, simply by ordering a cocktail. Those who visit the bar and eatery can order the Nogada and a $5 donation from the purchase will go to support Food Forward and their annual Harvest Challenge.

Food Forward works to fight hunger and prevent food waste by rescuing fresh surplus produce and connecting this abundance with people in need, while also inspiring others to do the same.

The organization has teamed up with 20 different food businesses from across Los Angeles and Ventura for their third annual Harvest Change event. Harvest Change is a month-long promotion where chefs, bakers, brewers, and makers from across Los Angeles and Ventura offer a menu item highlighting a seasonal-specific produce item–this year it’s pomegranates–and then donate a predetermined portion of proceeds from each sale to Food Forward. For Redbird, that item is the Nogade.

The Nogada is made with Mezcal, lime, Nocino, P.X. Sherry, chili, and, of course, pomegranate. Served with a thin slice of cucumber on top and a dash of chili powder, the beautiful brown beverage is the perfect compliment to autumn in Los Angeles. It is warm and dry with just enough acid and spice to brighten things up.

The beverage will only be offered till the end of October, so get it while you can. For more information on Food Forward and the annual Harvest Change event, as well as a list of other participating restaurants, bars, and bakeries, visit their official website.

There is also an Instagram component of the promotion that could provide eager posters with prizes. All one needs to do is share a photo of their Harvest Change dish on Instagram, tag @foodforward, and include #HarvestChange. From there, you’ll be entered into a raffle for a chance to wish a prize.
