Mackmyra has unveiled the latest edition to its Moment range, Körsbärsrök, which translates to Cherry Smoke. The new offering joins the line that showcases the Swedish Distillery’s most exclusive casks in very limited editions.
Mackmyra Moment Körsbärsrök is made from a combination of our smoky and unsmoked newmake, where both were distilled at Mackmyra Bruk in Valbo, Sweden in 2010. From there, the smoky new-make was aged in ex-Bourbon casks in the sizes 100 to 200 litres, while the unsmoked part was aged in ex-Bourbon and American oak casks seasoned with German cherry wine. LIke all Mackmyra releases, the Whisky is aged in Bodås Mine, a former iron mine that the distillery has repurposed to store their casks.
“In my opinion, a mature and smoky whisky such as this, with final maturing in cherry wine casks, is a real ‘end-of-the-year’ whisky,” said Mackmyra Master Blender Angela D’Orazio. “It is the perfect accompaniment to a Roquefort cheese or a soft, mature Brie at the end of a nice dinner with family and friends in the autumn darkness. It has a nicely distinct smoky character that doesn’t dominate the other finely-tuned flavours in the whisky too much.”
On the nose, the Swedish Whisky is fruity with notes of peat, tar and spicy juniper-smoke. Round notes of toasted oak, vanilla, anise, and fruity cherry are followed by citrus and pear fudge. The plate features more fruit and smoke with a well-balanced spiciness. Fine smoky notes with peat, oil and juniper blend with fruity cherries and round notes of oak and vanilla. The finish is fruity, smoky and spicy with pleasant notes of tar, peat, juniper, vanilla and fruity cherries.
Bottled at 53% ABV, just 1,500 bo55l3w of the Mackmyra Moment Körsbärsrök have been made available worldwide. It is currently on sale for £99 ($134 USD) and can be purchased via the brand’s online store.
