Lakes Distillery Adds Miramar To Whiskymaker’s Editions Series

The Lakes Distillery has unveiled Miramar, the third bottling in its Whiskymaker’s Editions series. For the launch, the English distillery teamed up with Master of Malt to release 600 bottles of the whisky.

Crafted by Lakes Distillery whiskymaker Dhavall Gandhi, the new expression is described as a “fruity and lively” single malt. “Miramar is versatile and expansive, bursting with stone fruit character contrasted with comforting vanilla and hints of gentle spice,” said Gandhi. “Layers of intricately woven flavours bring about a perfumed elegance with accentuated notes of Santa Rosa plums, morello cherries, honeyed fruits and toasted malts.”

Miramar is Portuguese for “sea-view,” and is a whisky designed for when “time advances, shadows lengthen, and the conversation meanders as the day drifts into dusk,” says the brand. It “conjures up memories of meandering conversation as the sun goes down and the moon comes up.”

The Lakes Distillery partnered with Tom Clohosy Cole,  a freelance digital illustrator, to create the sunset scene presented on the Whiskymaker’s Reserve, Miramar. The brand chose Tom because “his vivid work carries a lot of detail and interest, with his painterly approach and use of light bringing hope and optimism to his work. Miramar, a versatile and expansive whisky, captures that European sunset cafe culture where day drifts into dusk, time advances, shadows lengthen, conversations meander.”

Bottled at 54% ABV, it is non-chill-filtered. Six hundred bottles of the expression are available from Master of Malt for £80 ($110 USD).

In June, The Lakes Distillery added to its Whiskymaker’s Editions series, with a patisserie-influenced single malt. The drink has been created exclusively for renowned luxury retailer Harvey Nichols. Inspired by the sensory experience of a Parisian ‘childhood cake shop excursion’, the new expression is called Le Goûter.

In April, The Lakes Distillery unveiled the fourth release in its Whiskymaker’s Reserve series –  a whisky matured in red wine and Sherry casks. Launched in September 2019, the limited edition Whiskymaker’s Reserve series showcases the English distillery’s Sherry-led style.
