The London-based agave spirits experts over at Hacha, both the Brixton and Dalston locations, have announced the winners of Britain’s Best Tequila and Mezcal Cocktail 2022 competitions: Peter Scott of The Glasshouse, Tunbridge Wells and Christopher Elliot of Present Company, Liverpool respectively.
Both Hacha winners’ drinks are now available on the bars’ menus, where they will feature for a full year. Hacha launched their tequila and mezcal cocktail competitions three years ago, which have since become a highlight event in the UK agave industry. The competitions were focused on the agave spirit category rather than a specific brand in order to expand the scope and find the very best Tequila and Mezcal cocktail in the UK.
Having been overwhelmed by the number and quality of this years entries, Hacha’s bar owners, Emma Murphy and Deano Moncrieffe, along with a selection of drinks industry experts whittled the list down to a group of 11 finalists (across both categories) who then competed in front of a panel of renowned drinks professionals and previous winner Courtney Francis. The top two from each category were then put to the public vote last Thursday and the winning cocktails, chosen on Friday (Mexican Independence Day), were Midas by Peter Scott and Apricot Haze by Christopher Elliot.
Britain’s Best Tequila Cocktail 2022; Midas, created by Peter Scott of The Glasshouse, Tunbridge Wells uses VIVIR Blanco, infused in Coconut, along with Yellow Chartreuse, Pineapple Syrup, Grapefruit Bitters and Ginger Ale.
Britain’s Best Mezcal Cocktail 2022; Apricot Haze, created by Christopher Elliot of Present Company, Liverpool uses Del Maguey Vida, Madre Espadin, Homemade Horchata, Crème de Cacao, Chocolate Bitter and Homemade Mint Syrup.
The winning cocktails will be exclusively available on Hacha’s menu for a year, at both their Brixton and Dalston sites. The winners also received a portfolio of the complete line up of the spirits featured in the competition, as well as a first edition copy of The Tequila Ambassador by the late great Tomas Estes.
