Glenfiddich Launches Gran Cortes XXII, 22-Year-Old Whisky Finished In Rare Sherry Casks

Glenfiddich Gran Cortes XXII

Glenfiddich has launched Gran Cortes XXII, the second edition to the Speyside distillery’s Grand Series Collection. The new 22 Year Old Whisky follows in the footsteps of the 23-year-old Grand Cru Whisky, which hit shelves last year.

Glenfiddich Gran Cortes XXII Whisky was aged for 22 years, and then finished in rare Spanish Palo Cortado Sherry casks. The single malt gets its name from the grand palaces of Spain.

In order to create the exceptional Scotch, Glenfiddich malt master Brian Kinsman visited wineries across Andalucía, exploring the world of Spanish winemaking. “We researched age-old processes, testing finishing times and maturations to find the perfect composition of character, depth and aroma,” said Kinsman. “After careful experimentation, we found our match.

“The 22-year-old Glenfiddich malts from our old-age collection were finished in Palo Cortado oak casks. The alchemy that takes place in the oak casks pushes the boundaries once again. The finished product is a truly unique whisky with a dark red hue and distinctive character. It’s an unforgettable spirit to mark the most special occasions.”

On the nose, the Whisky offers aromas of dates, dark chocolate, and raisins. The palate features oak, sweet vanilla, and marzipan, followed by citrus and fruitcake on the finish. The distillery describes the spirit as having “rich and intense layers of deep sweetness.”

Glenfiddich Gran Cortes XXII comes in a Sherry-red box and has been created exclusively for consumers in Mainland China and Taiwan. It is available for purchase in luxury retail outlets and premium establishments.

Last month, we caught up with Glenfiddich Brand Ambassador Allan Roth to discuss the brand and the world’s most awarded single malt and the origins of the single malt in our Glenfiddich 12 Year Old Bottle Breakdown.

The William Grant & Sons-owned brand also recently launched its Where Next? campaign. The new advertisement features Glenfiddich’s iconic stag symbol wandering through forests, cities, and mountains as it encourages viewers to embrace challenges.

  1. Imagining the pairing of the tastes/aromas of marzipan, dark chocolate, raisins, dates, citrus and fruitcake plus 22 years of aging under the Glenfiddich label. Looking forward to having a taste of this some day. It sounds intriguing to say the least.
