Fettercairn has unveiled the 2022 release of its limited edition 16 Year Old Single Malt Scotch. The third whisky in the now annual series, this year’s bottling combines the Aberdeenshire distillery’s tropical house style with a unique finish in three different barrels.
As mentioned, the 2022 Fettercairn 16 Year Old is finished via a journey through three casks: First in first fill Oloroso sherry casks, then first fill Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, and finally in ex-bourbon barrels.
On the nose, the whisky offers notes of exotic fruits, syrupy figs, grapefruit, and mature oak. These are complemented through flavors of sunkissed raisins, ripe guava, and natural vanilla. The finish finds ginger cake, passion fruit, baked apple, and roasted coffee.
“In creating this recipe, selecting these casks, I set out to further explore the boundaries of what we can achieve at Fettercairn in our quest for true distinction whilst continuing to deliver on the tropical house character that defines Fettercairn,” says Master Whiskey Maker Gregg Glass. “Once again, the result is a very special, one-off creation that will never be repeated. The challenge was to fine tune the balance of cask influence that would deliver the unique profile I was looking for. A unique drinking experience, which, with accentuated flavour characteristics, define Fettercairn.”
The bottle will only be sold in Europe until 2023 and then will extend to Global Travel Retail and Asian markets. The 750ml will sell for a retail price of £72 with the GTR 1L version retailing at £82.50.
