Bowmore has unveiled a limited edition 30 Year Old single malt Scotch Whisky. The new expression from the Islay distillery will be released annually.
Distilled in 1989, the Bowmore 30 Year Old matured for three decades in Sherry hogsheads and Bourbon barrels. Just liquid from two barrels were selected to make the single malt, which will be the case for each annual release moving forward.
Bottled at a cask strength of 45.3% ABV, the new Whisky is said to be “defined, shaped and crafted by time.” On the nose, it features aromas of heather, bananas, peaches, pineapple, vanilla and butterscotch. The palate brings tropical fruits honey, along with notes of peat and eucalyptus.
“By adding an ongoing 30-year-old Bowmore to the portfolio, we are able to showcase how vital time spent in cask shapes and influences our spirit, making it even more exceptional and characterful,” said David Turner, Bowmore Distillery manager. “Each annual release will tell the rich stories of Bowmore, but importantly each will have their own unique style and character. As for this release, this is another perfect example of classic Bowmore but with boundless depth and intrigue reflecting the long standing interaction of spirit and wood.”
Limited to just 2,580 bottles for the 2020 release, Bowmore 30 Year Old will be available across the United States, United Kingdom, Europe, and a variety of other markets for $1,850 USD.
It has been a busy few months for Bowmore. Back in June, the distillery and Aston Martin launched their first collaborative whisky: Black Bowmore DB5 1964. Only 27 bottles have been made, making it one of the more exclusive expressions on the planet.
In August, Bowmore unveiled its 37 Year Old Fenghuang Edition, the second limited edition Whisky in its Chinese Mythical Guardians Series, which is exclusively available in China.
And at the beginning of this month, Bowmore launched “The Art of Time,” a new global campaign celebrating the Islay Scotch Whisky brand’s more than 240 years of history.
