Ballantine's Light Beefeater Light Pernod Ricard

Pernod Ricard has launched “Light” versions of Beefeater Gin and Ballantine’s Scotch Whisky. The French firm first rolled out the new offerings in Spain, where the no-low category has skyrocketed in popularity.

“Our teams have been working hard to create spirit drinks that accommodate mindful drinking without compromising on flavour, and to bring Scotch and gin fans a new way to enjoy the Ballantine’s and Beefeater experience,” said Jean-Christophe Coutures, chairman and chief executive of Chivas Brothers. “In line with Pernod Ricard’s 2030 Sustainability & Responsibility roadmap, Good Times from a Good Place, we are continuing to challenge ourselves and push the boundaries in developing innovative expressions that reflect the changing lifestyles of our consumers.”

Sandy Hyslop, Ballantine’s master blender, spent months creating the new, lower ABV Whisky. The resulting 40 proof product offers notes of green apple, pink grapefruit and orange zest, and should be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or in a cocktail.

Beefeater Light

Master distiller Desmond Payne MBE was behind the new Beafeater Light, which he created at the Beefeater distillery in London. It contains the same nine botanicals used for Beefeater London Dry gin and also comes in at 20% ABV..

“Our target audience of Urban Explorers are actively looking to make choices that support a balanced lifestyle and having choice within lighter alcohol alternatives plays a big role within this,” said Murielle Dessenis, Global Marketing Director for Beefeater. “Beefeater Light has received positive consumer feedback from those seeking a new way to enjoy the Beefeater Gin experience with friends, but without the full-strength alcohol content. We can’t wait for consumers in Spain to taste the quality of Beefeater Light, which really does deliver the full taste of Beefeater, the Spirit of London, with less alcohol.”

Ballantine’s Light is priced at €12.45 ($15.10 USD), while Beefeater Light costs €13.55 ($16.45 USD). They are both available in Spain this month.
