The American Bar at The Savoy hotel in London has unveiled a new cocktail menu called Re:Invented. The drinks list celebrates the bar’s “unique past.”
“A cocktail mecca, a must-do destination for drinks and style lovers, the American Bar has a fabled place in bar and hotel history. Re:Invented recognizes the innovation and creativity of past masters, but steps boldly into the future with the current team’s focus on cutting edge techniques, the latest sustainable practices and seasonality,” says the menu. “This is a bar where history has been made, where stories – scandalous, thrilling or joyous – play our every day. There’s a tale in every glass, so ask the team the story behind your cocktail.”
Hospitality consultant Anna Sebastian worked with the American Bar team to devise a menu of drinks that pay tribute to the bar’s history, drawing inspiration from nearly 100 years of cocktails served in the bar, as well as those who have visited or worked behind it.
“The menu features a range of cocktails inspired by well-known and forgotten Savoy classics that the team have brought into the modern day with amazing ingredients, and a seasonal and sustainable touch,” said Sebastian. “The drinks on the menu will change as the year goes on, allowing the team to continue to create and guests to try more drinks.”
Guests can expect to enjoy the reworkings of cocktails originally created by Harry Craddock in the 1930s, including Spring Is In The Air, a cocktail made with Portobello Road gin, Martini Ambrato vermouth, and Hercules – an “extinct” vermouth-style ingredient brought back to life by Portobello Road distillery specifically for use in this menu. Also on the menu is “The Other Cocktail,” a drink inspired by Winston Churchill, a devotee of The Savoy, where he set up The Other Club a non-conforming political society for him and his friends to indulge in the very best dining, drinking, and debate.
Other serves include The Savoy Bells (Patron Silver tequila, white Port, Palo Santo, eau de vie, red wine float), the £45 Pocket Rocket (Highland Park 18, discarded Cascara, sweet wine and vermouth, Cynar, creme de cacao), and A Royal Moment (Michter’s Small Batch Bourbon, Rakomelo Roots, Kamm & Sons, Walnut, Laurent-Perrier Brut NV Champagne). The menu also has a variety of non-alcoholic cocktails, including the Smoke Sour (Crossip Smoke, ginger syrup, agave, lemon juice, apple juice).
The launch of the new menu coincides with the reopening of the bar to the public for the first time since last year.
