Camus XO Cognac

Camus XO Elegance Cognac

Simply majestic, Camus XO takes drinkers on a journey through a myriad of flavors and aromas. The iconic house’s XO Cognac manages to be both voluptuous and light on its feet. Its ability to create such a vast profile may be due to the fact that it is made of eaux-de-vie from all six of Cognac’s terroirs–Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Fins Bois, Bons Bois, Bois à Terroirs, and, of course, Borderies, for which Camus is known for.

Camus XO matures for at least 10 years in Limousin oak casks. The use of lightly toasted fine grain woods helps preserve a balance between highly aromatic compounds and subtle tannins. The family utilizes different ambient moisture contents within its cellars to help the oaking process, moving the barrels selected for the XO from areas of relatively high moisture to drier areas as they get older.

A bold gold in color with deep redwood highlights, the Cognac offers aromas of apricot and white flower alongside notes of nuts, cinnamon and fresh-baked pastries. The palate opens with spice then warms with gentle floral notes, followed by decadent butter, vanilla, and candied fruit, along with floral notes, licorice, and caramel. The finish is long and lingering with rich spices.

It’s hard to think of any word other than “majestic,” when it comes to describing the Camus XO. It’s complex and enticing, refusing to be pinned down to a single place. In that way, it offers something truly unique in the world of spirits, which more and more attempt to explore the terroir of the smallest microclimates.

Bottled at 40% ABV, Camus XO Cognac is priced at $150 per 750ml bottle, and can be purchased via Drizly.

Last September, the iconic Cognac house released its newest offering, Camus Caribbean Expedition Cognac. We chatted with Global Brand Manager Pier Paolo Catucci about the inspiration, science, tradition, and journey that went into the creation of the new offering.

  1. I am happy to say I have actually tasted a Camus offering — Camus combines absolutely delicious flavors into as you put it a “majestic” drink — it doesn’t get any better than a sip of Camus. Even the color is enticing. I looked back at the interview with Brand Manager Catucci – I always learn so much from these interviews that make the bottles and the brand come to life.
