Take a sip of a Volley canned cocktail. Absent is the usual cloying sweetness, instead you’re met with sparkling Tequila and a splash of whatever juice that particular can contains. Volley is exactly what it says it is, and that’s a pleasant surprise in a sector that’s all too well-known for sugar and artificial flavors.
Volley comes in four varieties: Zesty Lime, Spicy Ginger, Sharp Grapefruit, and Tropical Mango. They are all crisp and refreshing. Each is distinct in what it offers and two, the Grapefruit and the Ginger, feel unique within the suddenly crowded RTD category.
Christopher Wirth and Camila Soriano, the husband-and-wife duo behind bottled cocktail firm American Cocktail Company, created the new seltzers, which are best served cold and drank straight from the can. Each 355ml can contains between 100 and 110 calories. Their goal was to create canned cocktails without any of the questionable ingredients that often come with RTD beverage options, and they are certainly successful.
Spicy Ginger
Spicy Ginger is the first flavor we tried and it surprised us from the first sip. The Tequila flavor is present from the start, and it’s pleasant.The ginger comes through more and more as you sip, delivering spicy notes that keep you and your taste buds alert. By the end you’re left wondering why more canned cocktails don’t take this clean approach.
Tropical Mango
From our favorite to our least favorite. There’s nothing wrong with the Mango, it just doesn’t offer anything unique and doesn’t blend quite as well with the Tequila or the bubbles as the other three options.
Zesty Lime
Refreshing, straightforward, the zesty lime is exactly what you’re looking for on a hot summer day. The lime cuts through the tequila and the effervescence provides a certain amount of electricity that makes you want another.
Sharp Grapefruit
While Spicy Ginger may be our favorite flavor, Sharp Grapefruit is probably the best. Grapefruit and Tequila just go perfectly together and Volley simply allows the two to mingle with each other. The result is delicious and we could easily drink down an entire pack of these without even thinking about it.
