A new wine bar has arrived in London, Wine Bar & Shop, 56 West Smithfield (aka 56WS). Located in Farringdon, the family-run ode to grapes offers award-winning wines from boutique producers at cave prices. After purchasing, visitors are encouraged to stay for a glass as all the wines are sold at their original, local winery prices, and there’s just a £5 corkage fee for those enjoyed at the bar.
Founded by the family of boutique vineyard Château De La Cômbe, in the South of France, 56WS partners with like-minded winemakers to bring rare and wonderful wines to their Wine Bar & Shop, in London. The wine list is small but refined, with each bottle chosen specifically for its unique character and flavour profile. Guests can also enjoy a selection of nibbles and charcuterie boards, with locally sourced cheese and meats.
56WS is a secret escape away from the hustle and bustle of the city, designed with cosy evenings and long nights in mind. The first floor is home to the bar, with a selection of bar stools and plush velvet sofas. On the second floor is the lounge area, with big arm chairs, comfy sofas, and walls lined with artwork. On the third floor is the traditional wine tasting room, where 56WS often hosts wine tasting events with its partner vineyards – it can also be booked out for events.
Matt Landsberg of 56 West Smithfield, says: “My family’s passion for viticulture and making exceptional wines is what led us to open 56WS. When we’re not busy during the winemaking season, we regularly visit small wineries all over the world in search of special wines that are true to their terroirs. 56WS is our way of bringing these amazing wines to London. And as our own importers we’re able to bring customers excellent value, selling all of the wines at their original, local winery prices.”
